Visible Felt Leadership Workshops


What is a Visible Felt Leadership visit?

Visible Felt Leadership visits are performed when management visit the workforce at their work area and interact with them. The purpose of a Visible Felt Leadership visit is to get to know the workforce and to get a better understanding of their work environment and the challenges that they need to face on a daily basis. It also allows the workforce to show and demonstrate to management what they do. If they have challenges or concerns they can show management what they are and make suggestions to resolve it. Visible Felt Leadership visits help to break down barriers between the different levels of the organisation and to build trust between them.

Infinity Risk Solutions present Visible Felt Leadership visit workshops that consist of a theoretical session and a practical session. 

During the theoretical session the facilitator will
  • explain the methodology of the Visible Felt Leadership visit.
  • discuss the psychology behind the Visible Felt Leadership visit.
  • discuss the requirements for a successful and efficient Visible Felt Leadership visit.

During the practical session the facilitator will
  • lead management to visit the employees on site.
  • observe and assist management during their engagement with employees.
  • coach management when it is necessary, to ensure that they comply with the requirements

Is there  a difference between a visible felt leadership visit and an inspection or a shop floor audit?
Yes there is! A visible Felt Leadership visit is not an inspection or shop floor audit. It is not a fault-finding exercise. Visible Felt Leadership visits focus on the employees and line management. Management is however required to address any at risk conditions or behaviour through meaningful coaching and to remove any barriers preventing compliance. Visible Felt Leadership visits have to make a positive difference in the area being visited.
Why must management visit employees in their work environment ?
Management must visit employees in their work area. It allows employees to show and demonstrate concerns and challenges to management. They will be able to show management how their suggestions can make a positive difference should it be implemented. Management develops a better understanding of the environment in which the employees operate and will be able to make better management decisions in terms of operational and safety issues.
is it not enough, if the manager responsible for the area do shop floor visits ?
It is not enough! The manager responsible for that area can also develop "factory blindness" and oversee certain at-risk or substandard behaviours and conditions. The management team will bring fresh eyes and perspectives to the area. It also allows management team members to debate on the best possible solutions for problems or concerns raised. It creates a unified front that shows employees that the entire management care and support them and that they have the same goals.

It is still important that the manager responsible do shop floor visits and engage with employees. Therefore the manager must continue with the activity.
