Leadership Training for First-line Managers

Why First-line managers?

First-line managers fulfil a very critical role in any organisation. I most cases the success of any initiative and the performance of the organisation depend on the first-line managers. The reason being is that the first-line managers are the link between management and the workforce. Their ability to interpret senior management's directives and to communicate it to the workforce is critical. Over and above they also need to have the ability to motivate and mobilise the workforce to perform in line with management's expectations and requirements. If a first-line manager is unable to do this, chances are that the workforce will fail and the objectives management had in mind will not be reached.

First line managers must also be able to inform and communicate the workforce's needs and challenges to management and take the responsibility to remove all possible barriers preventing the workforce to perform well. If a first line manager is not able to resolve challenges within teams they will not perform to their potential and a breakdown in management workforce relations will be created.

The challenge that organisations have is that most of their first-line manager have the operational skills and experience to be an asset to the organisation however the leadership and interpersonal skills are lacking.
